Businesses Vote YES for the Heart of London Business Alliance

Businesses in the heart of the West End gave a resounding vote of confidence today for the Heart of London Business Alliance, making it the 1st Business Improvement District in the UK to go through to a second term.

In total 63% of businesses voted with 86% voting in favour of a second term for the Heart of London Business Alliance, which has created a cleaner, safer trading backdrop and a better visitor experience in the Heart of London.

Simon Wilson, chairman of the Heart of London Business Alliance said: “Today’s result shows the excellent support for the Heart of London Business Alliance from our business community. Businesses recognise the importance of maintaining the status of the Heart of London as a world renowned destination. By working with the Business Alliance they can play an active role in how that environment is managed and developed.”

Sarah Porter, Chief Executive of the Heart of London Business Alliance added: “We have sought to be a catalyst for change and whilst there's much still to be achieved, we are proud of the part we have played in the dramatic progress to date in the area.

“Our proposals for the next five years build on the foundation to safeguard the clean and safe services, but will also bring fresh, exciting ideas to build the reputation of the Heart of London as a vibrant place to be.

“Our promise for the next five year term is to continue to place the issues of businesses onto the wider agenda and to support the exciting, ambitious schemes, which will make a real difference.”

Key priorities for the 1st year of operation will include a proactive Heart of London Street Team and City Guardians. Initiatives will address anti-social behaviour, street crime, rough sleepers, illegal street trading and the condition of side streets.

The second term will become operational on 1st April 2007.
