ABSOLUTELY ALUTEC AT THE MENAGERIE

Marley Plumbing and Drainage has contributed towards restoring the magnificent Menagerie in Coventry as seen on the Discovery Channel’s ‘Project Restoration’ series.

The roof is a particularly special feature at The Menagerie. Made of lead, the roof features two slate towers, a lead dome and an apex roof. Unfortunately, in subsequent years the lead has been stolen from the apex roof and damage has occurred to the towers, which has caused dry rot in the building. After ten years of vandalism, fire and neglect The Menagerie is now being restored to its former glory.

Marley Plumbing and Drainage is helping the transformation by providing a range of Alutec cast aluminium traditional style gutters and rainwater pipes including decorative hoppers that feature a small flower design. Alutec is a collection of aluminium rainwater systems that are available in either a mill finish or with a polyester powder coating that is available in 20 factory applied standard colours. The Alutec range is suitable for domestic, commercial and industrial applications, both modern and traditional. Due to the wide range of colours available, Alutec can match any type of building with a fully recyclable aluminium rainwater solution. Alutec was specified at The Menagerie as the product portfolio offers a wide range of aluminium guttering products that are suitable to replace the original cast iron ones.

Traditional 125mm half round guttering, traditional 5x4 moulded Ogee guttering and 76mm and 102mm traditional circular downpipes were all specified at The Menagerie. All of the Alutec products were supplied in conservation black, a unique textured finish, designed to emulate the appearance of cast iron.

Alutec traditional style gutters are designed to emulate, and be fully compatible with, cast iron but with all the advantages of aluminium. Both types of Alutec guttering are supported with traditional side rafter arms. The half round and 5x4 moulded Ogee guttering offer a traditional guttering combination to suit a listed period property such as The Menagerie.

In 1776 Henry Holland and Capability Brown modelled The Menagerie on the design of the menagerie at the palace De Versailles. Set within the grounds at Coombe Deer Park, the Grade 2 listed building has views over a lake and eight acres of gardens. The grand property has a viewing chamber and a number of hexagonal shaped rooms with windows on all sides. Originally, the building was intended to be a viewing place to watch the animals kept within the grounds.

The Menagerie will soon be restored to its former glory and the owners hope to move into their magnificent home later this year.
