Chesterfield Borough Council Deploys Mobile Access Solution For Building Service Engineers, Yielding £0.5million Savings
Responsive Completions of Jobs at 96% and Customer Satisfaction Levels At An All Time High of 91%, Following Field Mobilisation of Council Engineers
Chesterfield Borough Council has dramatically raised productivity and increased appointment visits of its building service engineers, following the deployment of a mobile access solution from Pervasic Ltd, the UK leader in mobilising corporate applications. The Council has seen £600k in savings since initially embarking on the project two years ago. Investment in new technology by the Building Services Division means the Council is now on track to meet the mandated Gershon efficiency target of £500k savings.
With a local population of 99,000, a housing stock of 10,000 properties, 220 employees and 120 vehicles, the Building Service Division of Chesterfield Borough Council has a total housing revenue budget of £15 million. The Council decided to mobilise its field service engineers in an effort to enhance its service delivery and meet Government guidelines on efficiency and best practice. With the previous paper-based system, engineers had to waste time driving to the depot, waiting for job sheets and vehicle provisioning, queuing to speak to the supervisor for job allocations, and manually filling out time sheets.
“We appointed Pervasic just over two years ago for our mobile application and are now reaping the rewards of a very successful deployment,” said Mark Tune, Mechanical, Electrical & ICT Manager, Housing Services, Chesterfield Borough Council. “Pervasic helped us design and deploy a system linking our operatives to back office applications using hand held PDA devices. Since deploying the system, we are able to have the same number of people do more jobs within the same budget. By boosting productivity, we’ve seen a 13% increase per working day per engineer. Our customer satisfaction levels are at an all time high of 91% as citizens are able to request increasingly narrow appointment windows. The Council is responsible for approximately 50,000 repair and maintenance jobs per annum, including 6,000 out of hours emergency repairs every year. As a result of the productivity gains through Pervasic’s mobilisation, the responsive completions of jobs are at 96%. We’ve deployed the system to the majority of our employees and are still in the process of rolling it out, but so far we are delighted with the results.”
