Ringtones That Ruin Romance! - Valentine's Day Story

Please find below a Valentine’s Day story from ringtone retailer MAX BOX that we thought might be of interest. It concerns a new survey that reveals which ringtones are most likely to put off the opposite sex. It is not particularly scientific – but is quite a fun story. Thanks,

Amy.

Felix Group Press Release 12.02.07

As Valentine’s Day Approaches The Ringtones That Can Ruin Romance Are Revealed

As Valentine’s Day approaches, digital retailer Felix Group Ltd has published the results of new poll that asked which musical mobile tones were the most unappealing to the opposite sex. Felix, who sell 1,000s of ringtones through its network of MAX BOX kiosks in pubs and clubs across the UK, surveyed both men and women about which tunes were most likely to put them off a potential new partner when their mobile rang on a first date.

Women surveyed by Felix revealed they were most turned off by men who had ‘arrogant’ songs referring to sexual prowess or good looks, followed closely by ringtones associated with football. Voted the most reviled male ringtone was Shabba Ranks’ ‘Mr Lover Man’, recently featured in Nokia’s X-Factor sponsorship breaks, followed by Color Me Badd’s ‘I Wanna Sex You Up’ and Right Said Fred’s ‘I’m Too Sexy’ at number three. The popular football anthem ‘Theme To The Great Escape’ came fourth, followed closely by ‘Match Of The Day’.

In sharp contrast, men cited that overtly romantic or sentimental tunes were the most likely to put them off a girl. Celine Dionne’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’ was top of the men’s most disliked ringtones, with Robbie Williams' ‘Angels’ at number two and Leona Lewis’ recent number one hit ‘A Moment Like This’ in third. Also in the top ten was James Blunt’s ‘Beautiful’ and Bryan Adams ‘Everything I Do’.

MAX BOX’s Andy Egan said of the results: “Increasingly our mobile phone ringtone is the 1st indication of our personality to people we only just met and it reinforces that first impressions really do count when it comes to dating. Our MAX BOX survey suggests that even if you see someone you find attractive standing at the bar, his or her phone suddenly blaring a song you find annoying can put you off straight away. Therefore our advice to anyone who is in the market for romance this Valentine’s Day should think carefully about what tune or tone they download on to their mobile.”
