Bordeaux ‘École du Vin': Wine education in the heart of the region
PRESS RELEASE, 14 March 2006
Bordeaux ‘École du Vin’: Wine education in the heart of the region
One of the world’s top wine schools, Bordeaux ‘École du Vin’, has launched its new programme and now offers more courses than ever before, to suit every learning level. Whether a complete beginner or enthusiastic amateur, the heart of Bordeaux is the finest environment in which to learn about the region’s famous wines.
The courses, which vary from 2 hours to four days in length, aim to improve wine enthusiasts’ knowledge of Europe’s largest vineyard area with practical wine tasting experience.
With a learning experience to whet all appetites, Bordeaux ‘École du Vin’ offers three levels of intensive courses in English:
Level 1 ‘Learning how to taste and discover Bordeaux wine’
Level 2 ‘The Essence of Bordeaux – Proficiency Course’
Level 3 ‘The Legendary Châteaux of Bordeaux: The Classifications and the wines’
Shorter courses have been added including a new two-hour “Introduction to Bordeaux wines” and a one-day “Saturday at school”. Between May and October there are three-day wine weekends entitled ‘Bordeaux Classics’ and ‘Bordeaux off the Beaten Track’.
Classes are given in the Bordeaux Wine School’s purpose built tasting rooms in the city centre, by local oenologists and wine makers. Students can apply their newfound skills during field visits and tastings in local Châteaux.
Notes to Editors
The Bordeaux ‘École du Vin’ was set up in 1997, offering ambitious yet unpretentious courses for everyone. The school does not try to set hard-and-fast rules, but rather to lay the groundwork so that people can navigate their own way around the world of Bordeaux wine. Currently it educates 1,800 students per year, some from the wine trade, but many who just love wine and Bordeaux. ‘École du Vin’ is currently working with Germany (Viniversitat), Japan (Tasaki), USA (ICE and others), and Switzerland as well as the UK to offer courses.
