Stephen Taylor of Yahoo! to speak at OMS on the future of search

* Search topped Online Marketing Show (OMS) survey as the key growth area for most marketers

Regional Vice President of Yahoo! Search and Search Marketing, Stephen Taylor, will be the keynote speaker on day one of the Online Marketing Show.

He will be talking about the influence of social media and citizenship journalism on the search network, and how this will affect online marketing.

“Collective sharing is the next chapter of the web, as users increasingly become publishers. Collective knowledge will become a key driver in more relevant search results as people take advantage of others’ acquired knowledge and experience,” says Taylor.

Barriers to creating web content are constantly being lowered with new technologies that allow people to create, develop, produce, share and even sell new content in ways previously unimaginable. According to Taylor, search has become more commoditised with individual searchers valuing human or community-based knowledge the most highly. Yahoo! has met the challenge with their ‘Find, Use, Share and Expand’ strategy.

“When we launched Yahoo! Answers, it was because people wanted and trusted human knowledge to answer their questions,” adds Taylor.

Social media continues to change the face of online. Blogs are already influencing brand reputation and consumer buying decisions, and sites like MySpace have generated huge popularity bases.

The role and future development of search was identified as one of the top areas of interest for marketers in a pre-event survey conducted by OMS. Most recognised it was a key growth area for online. Already, search marketing revenues represent more than 50% of all online marketing spend in the UK, amounting to more than £768 million.

The Online Marketing Show brings together some of the industry’s most notable speakers representing highly respected brands. Other speakers over the two days include Jamie Kantrowitz, Senior VP Marketing at MySpace.com, David Soskin, Chief Executive Officer of Cheapflights.co.uk, James Scroggs, VP Marketing at MTV Networks UK & Ireland and Gareth Gaston, Director of Online Retailing & Marketing for Hilton.

The event takes place on 7-8 June at the Royal Horticultural Halls, 80 Vincent Square, London. To view the Conference Programme and an up-to-date list of exhibitors, or to apply for a press pass, visit http://www.onlinemarketingshow.co.uk/v/v_press_register.html
