Northgate to help Kelvingrove Gallery deliver a 21st century service

Northgate Information Solutions today announces it has secured a three-year contract with Glasgow City Council to support the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, which re-opens in July 2006 after a £27million renovation.

Along with newly-arranged displays on a host of subjects, from Ancient Egypt to Scottish Identity, the Gallery will also make use of state of the art facilities.

Northgate is providing a fully-managed ICT service designed to ensure that visitors of all ages can make best use of the Gallery’s innovative technology, including interactive touch-screen monitors which provide details of all the works on display.

Prior to closing in 2003, Kelvingrove was the most popular museum in the UK outside of London, attracting more than one million visitors every year. The Council is hoping to build on this success and take the Gallery into the 21st Century.

Councillor John Lynch, convener of Glasgow City Council’s Cultural and Leisure Services committee, said:

“Our goal was to create modern facilities, services and displays, whilst ensuring the building itself can still be seen to best effect. Through working with Northgate, we will be able to ensure that our visitors can enjoy the benefits of our innovative use of ICT, and provide our staff with high quality technical support.”

James Turnbull, MD of Northgate Infrastructure Solutions, added:

“We are delighted to be working with Kelvingrove, and to be supporting them at this key stage in their development. Through ensuring a high standard of ICT service, our staff in Glasgow and across the country are pleased to be playing a part in the re-opening of one of the city’s top attractions.”
