Bassetlaw Council and Northgate partnership to bring environmental health benefits to citizens

More than 110,000 people in Bassetlaw could benefit from a new partnership designed to deliver effective environmental health and public safety services, and contribute to safer, stronger communities.

The state of the art public protection service will be implemented at Bassetlaw Council by Northgate Information Solutions in a contract worth more than £90,000 over seven years. The council has joined up its administrative management of environmental health, private sector housing, antisocial behaviour and waste management, in order to deliver enhanced services to citizens and reduce unnecessary bureaucracy.

By fully integrating with a geographic information system, the innovative service will enable the council to:

•use a streamlined approach to improving services, by quickly identifying problems, agreeing their intervention and solution, and delivering real outcomes, whilst undergoing constant assessment of the situation;
•allow officers instant access to the comprehensive information they'll need to answer citizens’ enquiries;
•reduce the need for staff to undertake complicated manual operations, freeing up council staff for more important tasks, at the same time delivering efficiency savings across council services;
•understand people’s needs through the monitoring of complaints and requests from the public at every stage of the process.

Chris Shaw of Bassetlaw District Council’s Environment and Housing Service, said today:

“It is essential that Bassetlaw delivers first-class environment and housing services, whilst being aware of the need to address issues raised by recent government legislation and future challenges. The council is committed to implementing practical improvements to these services to benefit the local community, and we believe that our close collaboration with Northgate will help deliver the best service for local citizens.”

Russell Osborne, MD of Land & Property at Northgate Public Services, said today:

“We are delighted to be working with Bassetlaw Council as we both strive to deliver continuously improving services to the public. Northgate is deeply committed to helping its local authority partners focus on the important needs of citizens by providing reliable and innovative services that cut down on needless administration and successfully deliver efficient and effective services to local communities.”
