Give your sex life a boost

Are you going through the menopause? Is your sex drive on a downward spiral? Does your sex life need a boost? Many women experience sexual problems after the menopause – reduced libido and vaginal dryness being two of the major triggers. Effective treatments are available, yet few women seek help from their GP.

The winter 2004/5 issue of The Menopause Exchange newsletter looks at sexuality after the menopause. In her article, Doctor Janice Rymer (consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine) covers the reasons behind sexual problems at the menopause, the role of androgen replacement therapy and HRT and medication to boost libido in women.

“Sex is often a taboo subject, yet women must seek help from their GP if they are experiencing problems. There’s no reason why a woman should not be able to continue with a healthy sex life after the menopause,” says Norma Goldman, founder and director of The Menopause Exchange.

The Menopause Exchange doesn’t just cover conventional subjects like menopausal symptoms, HRT and its alternatives, nutrition and lifestyle and medical conditions (e.g. osteoporosis), but also looks at taboo subjects like sexual health and bladder problems. It is completely independent – it is not sponsored by any companies and is funded purely by subscriptions. Other articles in the Winter 2004/5 issue include fats in the diet, coping with sleeplessness and arthritis. The Menopause Exchange has an Ask the Experts panel and fact sheets specifically for members.
