Getting that bloated feeling?

PRESS RELEASE

For immediate release: 2 August 2006

Getting that bloated feeling?

If your tummy isn’t as flat as it used to be, it’s time to work out why. Most of the time, bloating can be eased with some simple self-help measures. But occasionally it is a sign of something more serious that needs medical advice.

In the Summer 2006 issue of The Menopause Exchange newsletter, GP Doctor Sally Hope takes a look at common causes of a bloating look – weight gain, fluid retention or air build-up – and how to deal with them. She also covers more serious causes, like an underactive thyroid.

“Bloating can affect women at all ages, but hormone changes at the menopause can make some women more prone to it,” says Norma Goldman, founder and director of The Menopause Exchange. “It is usually treated with simple measures or over-the-counter products. However, it does occasionally need medical treatment so it should not be overlooked.”

The Menopause Exchange covers a wide range of subjects like menopausal symptoms, HRT and its alternatives, nutrition and lifestyle and medical conditions (e.g. breast cancer). It is completely independent – it is not sponsored by any companies and is funded purely by subscriptions. Other articles in the Summer 2006 issue include HRT oral tablets (part 2 of 3 articles on HRT products), aches and pains and cooking at the menopause. The Menopause Exchange has an Ask the Experts panel and fact sheets specifically for members.
