NORTHERNERS ARE TAKEAWAY KINGS WITH 3 A WEEK
The North of England orders more takeaways per person than their Southern counterparts according to a national survey of 1962 people by the UK’s leading online takeaway providers. The study shows that Manchester order more takeaways per household than any other city in the UK.
According to sales data and a national survey commissioned by the UK’s leading online takeaway provider, Manchester orders more takeaways per week than any other city, averaging 2.9 takeaways a week per household. Four of the top five cities in the top 10 are Northern cities, whilst 3 Southern cities make the top 10.
www.Just-Eat.co.uk commissioned the survey to analyse areas in which to increase marketing. They have just gained their 100,000th member, and are serviced nationally by some 1,300 restaurants and eateries.
The results showed that nationally, 33.5% of the public had one takeaway a week, whereas nearly a quarter or 23.7% ordered a takeaway twice a week. 14.6% of people claimed to order a takeaway more than 3 times a week, with 0.6% of participants claiming to purchase a takeaway daily. A fifth of people said they ordered less than one takeaway per week, which bought the average down considerably for many of the cities.

Ash Ali, Marketing Manager at Just-Eat.co.uk said,
“We wanted to gain an insight into the Nation’s most takeaway crazy regions, and are really surprised by the results. We have recently hit 100,000 members in the UK following on from our success in Europe, and have serviced over 40,000 takeaway requests in the last month alone, but are always looking for new markets and regions to penetrate,”
He continued,
“I would have expected the results to show the exact opposite, as Londoners are perceived to lead such as hectic lifestyle, but with cities such as Manchester and Liverpool on the rise economically, the scales may have tipped.”
www.Just-Eat.co.uk is the UK branch of the successful European model, which provides an average of more than 30,000 meals for European customers in any given twenty four hours. Just-Eat have a strategic partnership with Coca Cola.
