British Hairdressing Business Awards 2006
British Hairdressing Business Awards Celebrates the Best in Business
According to statistics, hairdressing is the happiest profession, to work in, and is also known for it’s creativity. Since the launch of the British Hairdressing Business Awards in 1998, salons and individuals are now being recognised and rewarded for their business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit .
Year on year, the British Hairdressing Business Awards have grown in stature, and are now established as the major business event within the hairdressing calendar, one which celebrates the extremely high standards of business skills found within hairdressing salons throughout the United Kingdom. Recognising many of the talents required to run a successful business, the British Hairdressing Business Awards have helped to dispel the myth surrounding hairdressing, and has proved that salons, both large and small, can prove themselves as equals in industry - running highly profitable businesses and in many cases with a multi-million pound turnover.
“The British Hairdressing Business Awards is a tremendous motivator for all the salons who enter”, comments Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Hairdressers Journal International, Jayne Lewis-Orr. “Entering the Awards gives salons the opportunity to examine their structure and policies and provides them with a fantastic platform to present their business to their peers. There’s a category suitable for everyone from Independent Salon - Business Newcomer to Junior of the Year and Salon Design of the Year. British hairdressing is not only creative, we also have some of the best business brains in the country working within our industry, and the British Hairdressing Business Awards recognise and reward this.”
There are twelve British Hairdressing Business Awards, which range from the Customer Care Award to the Salon of the Year Award, but the most hotly contested award is the Business Director of the Year title, sponsored by Hairdressers Journal International. This award is presented to the person who has, through hard work, dedication and strong business expertise developed their business and achieved their goals.
Previous winners read like a who’s who of business entrepreneurs – Jon MacLeod from Paterson SA, Stephen Messias from the Keith Hall Group, Phil Smith from Toni & Guy, Alan & Linda Stewart from Rainbow Room International, Sean Hanna from the Sean Hanna Group and Marc Westerman from Westrow.
In 2005 the accolade was once again presented to Jon MacLeod from Paterson SA. “I was delighted to receive the Business Director of the Year Award. Hairdressing is an amazing business, it allows you to be creative and at the same time to grow and develop your team, which in turn allows your business to grow and develop – there’s not many industries where creativity and business sit hand in hand. Hairdressing is one of them – it’s a fantastic industry which can provide so many career options.”
To enter the awards, salons or individuals have to meet the criteria set down by Hairdressers Journal International and the sponsors of that particular category. This is then judged by a panel of judges from the sponsors and then passed on to a panel of independent judges from all areas of business life including banking, marketing and advertising. From these two judging sessions, six finalists in each category are chosen. In certain categories mystery visits are made to salons and in the Manager, Junior and Business Director of the Year categories, a panel of industry expert’s interviews the finalists.
The British Hairdressing Business Awards takes place at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on Monday 11th September 2006, where the winners in the following categories will be announced.
